Archie ‘The Atom’ Fuller made his long awaited debut in the Green and White of Hastings West Hill at their home show on Saturday in Hollington.
Big things are expected of young Fuller who has been training at the Whitefriars Rd based club for three years now.
Archie was up against Daniel Blunden Of Littlehampton in a skills bout at 27kg. Both boys started off moving around the ring well sizing each other up, it was Archie who started the aggressor with some slick repetitive jabs followed up with a couple of sharp backhands.
Southpaw Blundon woke up in the second round, beginning to move his feet in and out of range scoring with straights then moving well off to the sides. As the bout progressed, both lads moved well showing a high work rate and impressive use of attacking and defensive skills. Coach Adrian Clark recalls, “We were really happy how Daniel boxed to instruction. We asked him to use his feet to trigger and move in and out with the counters. It was a great experience and performance considering he was particularly nervous the night before!”
Though this was a skills bout with no eventual winner, there was plenty of evidence that both clubs have two bright young stars on their hands. “Westhill’s current crop of youngsters are very exciting. They all train and spar together, so this is helping to bring them all along together.” Said Westhill Treasurer and Archie’s Father, Shaun Fuller. “The future looks bright for the green and white!”
Huge congratulations to both boxers – a credit to their clubs. Good luck in the future lads!
